Projects of IGN
Here we always provide information about current projects. Transparency is a key point for us. With the resources made available to us, we are very careful and responsible. To ensure that your donations reach their target, we deliberately avoid cost intensive administration. We want to achieve the main purpose: Securing the future of less privileged children in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Support projects for children in retail
India is a rich country with many people in need. Therefore IGEP Chairman, Dr. Kebschull, has been running a small school in New Delhi since ten years. The ‘Little Keb-school’ is in the south of the city. It has been supported by members and friends of the family. Around two hundred children from poor backgrounds are looked after. They belong mostly to the families of migrant workers from Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal. Health problems and lack of income enforced them to stay on in Delhi. More than half of the pupils are girls, whose status in India still needs significant improvement.
Teaching and tutoring in the school, including the small snacks are free. But it is still hard for poor parents to buy writing pads, books, school bags and uniforms. Therefore, the IGN this year took over the supply of new school bags and uniforms.
A special delight for Saurabh
Saurabh is fourteen years old and had polio. Therefore he is constantly dependent on a wheelchair. His parents are not in a position to finance such expenditure. A teacher told us. It required only a telephone call and on the Indian Independence Day, 15 August 2009, Saurabh received his long-awaited new wheelchair.
With the beginning of winter new shoes and sweaters for all are needed. IGN has agreed to cover the costs.
No long moral persuasion was needed for supporting young adolescents who some years ago had to literally work day and night as carpet weavers in Uttar Pradesh. They have been liberated and educated in Balashrya, the Rugmark rehabilitation centre. Because of their good marks at school they qualified for higher education. This however costs money which they do not have. The willingness of the IGN to help them is something which came to them like the fulfillment of a dream.
Manoj Ray (18) today can study commerce at the Indira Gandhi Open University. He also had polio. Some money he earns as assistant administrator in the Little Keb-School. But most important is a monthly scholarship provided by the IGN for two years. This enables him to finish his studies and to find a better place in life.
Mukesh Kumar (16) has a special talent in drawing and designing. He got several awards for his portraits which he makes just based on simple photographs. IGEP identified a good computer design school for him where he can develop his capabilities further. This is only possible because of the help from IGN.
Mrs. Kukreti is a teacher at the Little Keb-School. With her modest salary she just can cover the basic needs of her two children Kanjan and Shobit. For a good education the widow of an army man has no funds at all. It is due to the help of the IGN that the kids can now finish the school and happily go for higher education at university.
All these are only first modest steps to help a bit. Within the coming years the IGN will go for special projects. Without making big announcements and PR, but for the benefit of those who need support.
